Για να ξερουμε και εμεις οι καινουργιοι στο GPS, τι ειναι αυτα ????

Πρόκειται για «πρωτόκολλα» επικοινωνίας της συσκευής GPS με τον υπολογιστή. Για τον τελικό χρήστη πρακτικά είναι αδιάφορο γιατί οι επιδόσεις (ταχύτητα επικοινωνίας) είναι και με τα δύο απόλυτα επαρκής. Για την ιστορία, το πρωτόκολλο ΝΜΕΑ στέλνει μηνύματα σε ASCII με αποτέλεσμα να μπορεί κανείς να τα διαβάσει και να τα διαχειριστεί εύκολα.

NMEA = National Marine Electronics Association.

Firstly there are two GPS Standards, NMEA and SiRF. Although SiRF is the up and coming new boy on the block (created in 1995), NMEA is the acquired standard and one used by 95% of GPS applications. Why two standards ? NMEA is getting old, it was designed to talk at 4800 baud (4kbps). Modem speeds today are 56kbps so you can see NMEA is slow. SiRF has brought about that change by increasing speeds and utilising full serial speeds up to 115200kbps. The thing is although NMEA is slow, some GPS Receivers will work at higher than 4800, but this is what NMEA prefers. The amount of GPS data sent down the serial port is very small and can easily be transmitted in 4800 baud so although you could reach higher speeds, there isn't really any necessary to do so. SiRF uses higher speeds because it can transmit the data quickly and put the processor into a wait state which in theory means it utilises less power, newer SiRF chipsets like SiRF IIe also have low power consumption which help even further with sustaining power to the GPS Receiver.

SiRF improves on conventional GPS by providing location awareness where other approaches cannot, including under dense foliage, in steep ravines, in “urban canyons” and even in some indoor environments. In the constant tension between lost and found, SiRF’s GPS solutions tip the odds in favor of being found.

η ευαισθησια εχει να κανει με το αν ειναι sirf το chipset ασχετα αν
χρησημοποιουμε nmea η sirf προτωκολλο εποικινωνιας.

οστωσο λεει πολυ πολυ σωστα NMEA is the acquired standard and one used by 95% of GPS applications.

και εννοει και software πχ arcpad (www.esri.com) το οποιο δεν δουλευει με sirf προτωκολλο και hardware πχ επικοινωνια του δεκτη με αλλες συσκευες.

εγω πιστευω οτι η ταχυτητα της εποικινωνιας δεν εχει μεγαλη σημασια,
με 4800 μεταδιδινται ολα και περισευει και ταχυτητα.


η ευαισθησια των δεκτων με chipset sirf ειναι το νοημα.
